I Have Answers

Yes, I do.  Ask me anything and I will undoubtedly tell you something which may or may not be helpful, or even relevant.  Like posting this random picture of an odd thing I have hanging in my kitchen.

Here are 15 questions of questionable origin (to me) and I am too lazy to figure out where they came from in the first place.  But they are good questions, and these three awesome blogging people answered them and now I will be a copy cat and do it too.  Thank you to –

Knocked over by a feather

Mental in the Midwest

To Breathe is to Write

15-questions-tag

What do you think you can do but can’t?

I think I can save everybody.  I think I know how every person in trouble or distress should think and act and feel and what needs to happen to have everything turn out right.  Too bad nobody will listen or cooperate.  I’m not even very good at listening to myself, so why am I surprised.

What’s a difficult word for you to pronounce?

There is more than one.

deterioration (because of that middle syllable),

barbiturate (because of that middle “r”)

and  remuneration (because there’s no numeration involved)

I also sometimes used to stumble over initial phone greetings at work (good afternoon, blah blah blah, how may I direct your call), but usually nobody listens to those either.

What are your favorite TV shows from your childhood?

We didn’t own a television set until I was nine years old.  Half my childhood was already over.  I remember watching Howdy Doody, I Love Lucy, Bonanza, Ed Sullivan, Father Knows Best, Dragnet, Gunsmoke, and Red Skelton.  We also got only one channel.  But look at that.  They broadcast some high quality TV.

What are your virtues and vices?

Most of the time I am kind and generous and patient.   However, I can also be an unforgiving snob.  I’m a work in progress.

What’s more important: love, fame, power, or money?

If you are famous and powerful and rich but don’t have love, too bad for you.  Love isn’t something you can demand or buy.  And without it, where’s the happiness?  Having never been famous, rich or powerful myself I’m making assumptions, of course.  But, as usual,  I still think I’m right.

If you could live in any era/time period, when would it be and why?

According to my psychic, I’m a very old soul and I’ve lived in all of them.  This would explain why I’m so smart and know so much.  Or maybe it was all that great TV I used to watch as a kid.

If you had to redo your entire wardrobe with 2 stores, what would they be and why?

I honestly have no idea.  Where do they sell yoga pants and sweat shirts?

Can you recall what you were doing a year ago on this day?

No, but I looked in my blog archives and discovered that on February 21st, 2014,  I was looking through an old journal and laughing at some of the strange things I had on my ‘grateful’ list.  The last half of the book is blank.  I don’t believe I suddenly stopped being grateful.  Probably lost my pen.

Do you have recurring dreams? If so, explain?

There’s a house I dream about a lot, in which I am being pursued by something (or someone) bad.  It has many staircases and hallways and doors and rooms.  I’m afraid, but I’m also very confident that I know lots of good hiding places.  Wow.  A psychiatrist would have a heyday with that one.

What’s your horoscope?

I am Taurus.  Generous, dependable, patient, pleasant and down to earth.  Also stubborn, self-indulgent, materialistic and lazy.  Well, nobody’s perfect.

What does your dream bedroom look like?

I don’t care as long as it’s warm and the bed is comfortable.  A large percentage of the time I will have my eyes shut in there.

What position do you sleep in?

I have a queen sized bed and I sleep on my side on the edge with my feet hanging out.  Hot feet are the worst.

What are your all time favorite films?

There’s only a handful of films that I’ve watched more than once.  Probably for the same reason that I don’t want to go back and relive any of my past  lifetimes.  Been there, done that, on to the next adventure.  W, on the other hand, can watch a movie a dozen times and never get tired of it.  I watched Bridesmaids three times.  I don’t know what that says about me, but I’m sure it’s probably something good.

What makeup are you currently wearing?

Foundation to even my skin tones (a nice way of saying cover up the blotches and age spots),  eye shadow because I feel naked without it (although it’s hard to see it under those over the eye bags) and lip gloss because chapped lips are just marginally worse than hot feet.  If I’m going somewhere I will add eyeliner and mascara.  But it would have to be somewhere pretty damned important these days.

Do you have neat handwriting? Show us!

imageThis is a large sample in case you want to submit it to an expert for analysis.  To see if the results are in harmony with my Taurian traits.  I think it’s rather sad that cursive writing is going the way of the dinosaur and Ed Sullivan.

Well, that’s enough enlightening crap for this February Saturday.  Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend.  If not, you can always answer these questions yourself to liven things up.  But if you’re busy watching I Love Lucy re-runs,  I understand.

Some Taurean Bull

Maybe I’ve been brainwashed into thinking that I am a Taurean through and through because I started reading this stuff decades ago and took it all too seriously.  Perhaps I decided that if it was my fate to be born a Taurus I might as well go ahead and act like one.

How ever it happened, it’s no big surprise to me when I read my astrological forecast and come across something like this:

Someone is pushing hard for you to do something you don’t want to do, but your resistance is legendary.  You will stick to your principles like glue, and refuse to budge an inch.  If you must, you must, but you won’t go down without a fight.

Sigh.  My resistance is legendary.  I laughed when I first read that, and then I thought – hey,  it’s not that funny.  I don’t really want to be the cranky old lady waving her cane in the air, shouting obscenities at the world.

These next random Taurus truths will be interesting to other Taurean people, or to those of you who know and love a Taurus well.  There is a lot to love here of course.  Although I may be biased saying that.  And if you aren’t a Taurus, and you don’t know one, you could still  read on just to see what you’re missing.

1.   Possessions and Material things

Taureans don’t feel emotionally secure unless they can see and touch the objects they own. Possessions and material things are of great significance to them and the intense need to possess and enjoy with the senses can drive them to be extremely productive.  (Yes, I have a lot of stuff.  I keep saying I’m going to de-clutter my house, but it hasn’t happened yet. I have been very productive moving things around though.)

2.  Taurus’ Love for Gardens

Taurean’s home and gardens are important to them. They reflect their love of harmony and beauty.  Many enjoy gardening and find emotional release in ‘turning” the soil..  If not, they’ll make sure someone else keeps-up their yard!  (Big check mark on that last part where I get somebody else to do it.)

3.  The Taurus Star Constellation

The Taurus constellation is a prominent constellation in the northern hemisphere’s winter sky, and one of the oldest dating back to the Early Bronze Age.  Taurus is symbolized by the bull and is mythologized in ancient Greece, Egypt and Babylon.  (The only constellations I’ve ever been able to make out in the night sky are the big and little dippers.  There may be smarter Taurean astronomers out there somewhere.  Well, let’s hope so, anyway.)

4.  Taurean Children

The Taurean child is charming and enjoys rules and regularity.  They usually do well in school, because they like the routine.  Their mind works at a slower pace than other signs, so more time on ‘homework’ is needed,  However, once a concept is grasped, it’s never forgotten.   (Did you notice the part where they said “charming”?)

5.  The Taurean Parent

Set routines are the norm and they feel their children should also practice discipline as a guidance.  All is well if it’s not too strict! Tarueans are concerned about their child’s education and will make sure they have the best possible chance to learn.  (Well there you go – you can give them every chance, but ultimately what they do with it is up to them.)

6.  Taurus’ Healing Gem: Emerald

Emeralds are great for Taureans as they encourage self-expression. They help to articulate thoughts and feelings and have the added benefit of relieving jealous tendencies and attract domestic bliss and loyalty.  (Too bad they’re green.)  (If anyone would like to give me one or two of them, I’ll overlook the color.)  (And what the hell is domestic bliss?)

7.  Taurus’ Healing flower: Narcissus

Narcissus brings Taureans self-love and increases self-confidence by enhancing their inner beauty and radiance. It relieves coughs and colds and is a natural sedative, calming panic attacks and preventing insomnia.  (Really?  This is all news to me. Am I supposed to be eating them?)

8.  The Taurean Anger

It takes a lot to really anger a Taurean, but when in a rage they have a strong desire to throw things and to storm around the house.  They remain angry for a long time.  If you arise a Taurean, let them cool down before talking again.  Don’t push them!  (This is excellent advice.)

9.  Partners in Love and Friendships

They have a talent for giving others a feeling of security. In times of crises, they’re of great comfort with advice which is practical, realistic and to the point.  Their calm approach to crises soothes even the most frayed nerves.  (This is AFTER the temper tantrum.)

10.  The Taurean Work Ethic

Taureans work slower than other signs but always finish whatever projects they start.  They are trustworthy, reliable, careful and steadfast.  If you want a job done and done well, give it to a Taurus!  (Unless it involves de-cluttering, and then they’re hopeless.)

11.  Planet Venus rules Taurus and Libra

Venus is called the goddess of beauty and love.   With her influence, Taurus works to obtain qualities of harmony, devotion, refinement and affection. Although the tendency towards self-indulgence, laziness and indifference must be avoided.  (Why?  Why do we have to avoid these things?  I like all of them.)

12.   Taurean’s Sensual Lust for Life

Taurus is governed by the goddess of love Venus, her influence gives Taureans an appetite for love, desire, creativity and all things considered “The Good Life”.

This list was shamelessly copied from a site called Likes.com which I found via Facebook.  This particular article said to read the twelve points to see if I (as an expert on being a Taurus by accident of birth) agree that these are indeed Taurean traits. So I did.  And I guess I do.

If I didn’t I’m sure I’d be stomping about stating my objections in some sort of legendary way.

Ophiuchus? Really?

Yesterday was my birthday, the 13th of May.  I had a brief panic attack, which surprisingly enough had nothing to do with my age.  It’s all this nonsense about a thirteenth sign of the Zodiac. And a perfect example of a little knowledge being a dangerours thing.  And jumping to conclusions being stupid.  And stuff like that.

Turns out it’s a technically inaccurate description of Ophiuchus when it’s being called a ‘sign’ of the zodiac, although the public misconception dates back to the 1970’s  and a misunderstanding about the differences between the Tropical and Sidereal Zodiacs, and the Parazodiacal Constellations.  Which, when you think about it, is not that hard to imagine happening with all this astronomical gobbledegook being thrown about as if we’re all supposed to understand what the hell they’re going on about.  I blame it entirely on the stars and the planets which don’t seem to remember from year to year how to keep themselves properly aligned.  According to Wikipedia “the irregular astronomical demarcation of visible constellations does not relate to the separate frame of reference provided by the equally spaced twelve-fold longitude division of the ecliptic into zodiacal signs.”  So we all need to calm down.

My alarm was caused by suddenly noticing a discrepancy in the dates.  By the Tropical (Western) Zodiac I’m still a Taurus, but by the Sidereal (Eastern or Hindu) Zodiac and the Constellation calculations I’m Aries.  Inconceivable.  No offense to Aries people, but seriously, I am nothing like you.  Even on the cusp, I do not share your traits.

Adventurous.  Not even remotely.  If you ever ask me “Where’s your sense of adventure?”  your question will be met with a blank stare.

Ambitious.  Huh.  Not really.  I strive not so much for success as for creature comforts.  I am ambitiously involved in the pursit of laziness and inertia.  With a less than normal  level of enthusiasm.

Impulsive.  Rarely.  Everything I do requires thought and planning.  Sometimes to the point where nothing much at all gets accomplished because the thought and planning hasn’t yet ended.  Maybe it never will.

Impatient.  Never.  I am the most patient person on the face of the earth.  I can wait you out no matter what.  Let’s just wait and see what happens is always the relentless phrase in the back of my head.

Self-reliant.  Well sort of, I suppose.  But I’d never refuse help.  And if you want to do whatever it is on your own for my benefit, that’s certainly fine with me.

Undiplomatic.  Quite the opposite, actually.  I will do just about anything to avoid conflict. I will knock myself out to see the other person’s point of view.

Then there are the Taurean traits which (in some cases unfortunately) describe me a whole lot better.

Stubborn.  Sigh.  Yes.  Just because I’m diplomatically seeing your point of view and smiling and nodding like I get it, doesn’t mean I’ll ever change my mind about anything.  Because I’m always right.  Just ask W.  And if he says no, he’s obviously lying.

Dependable.  Yes, I am reliable and responsible to the point of boring everyone to tears.

Persistent.  Yep,  In an elephant never forgets sort of way. In for the long haul.  Stick in the mud forever without end.

Materialistic and Possessive.  I admit it’s true.  I do like lots of things. I like lots of things to be mine.  I prefer that you do not borrow my things.  In fact don’t even touch them.

Affectionate.  Of course. It almost goes without saying.  Doesn’t all of the above make it sound like I’m just bursting with love and kindness and benevolence and magnanimity?  Well, I can be sentimental and emotional.  It’s the same thing, isn’t it?

What it all boils down to is the fact that I am not adventurous or impulsive enough to embrace a different zodiac with altered dates after all these years of stubbornly and persistently believing myself to be a Taurus through and through.  If I ever move to India perhaps I will have to accept the Sidereal one which tells me I’m Aries, but since that’s not ever going to happen in this lifetime, I’ll just carry on and wait for the next one and then see what happens.

And if you think you might be an Ophiuchus (November 29th to December 17th) chances are you’re still a Scorpio or a Sagittarius here in the real world and some hot shot astrological buff is just pulling your chain.

House of Money

I did not know there was a Zodiacal House of Money.  Perhaps this is why I am not rich.  Or there could be other reasons for that too.  Anyway, here’s what the stars are telling me on this 27th day of March.

Today the Moon enters your Zodiacal house of money, Taurus, and this month’s visit begins with a lot of financial activity. You’ll really have to be careful about spending, because the Moon forms an astrological pattern known as a T-Square that affects your financial axis, and the way it is situated in your Solar Chart, you’re more likely to let go of more money than you take in. Don’t get excited about any kind of speculative venture, and avoid spending on recreation or gifts for children or lovers.

HA!  You’re way too late with that financial advice my little astrological friends.  We’re comitted to the new furnace, I’m getting only holiday pay for a month, my shopaholic grandaughter is visiting, and I really really really needed that huge notepad with a picture of coffee on the cover and random coffee beans on every lined page, and the sparkly brown gel pen that came with it, so there’s really nothing I can do now about that very random purchase.  And there might have been a couple other ones in there that have conveniently slipped my mind.

There’s already Hunger Games merchandise at a few stores, and I could not resist purchasing the parody.  I read it last night, so if you’re looking for a much quicker less serious story, this one could be for you.

I’m not even kidding, I did not notice the dead mocking jay until I’d finished reading the book.  It’s a nice touch.  Again, I think you have to read the original book to appreciate this one and it’s warped humor.

The random word generator has prompted me to complete the sentence “Life is like……” using the following sets of words.

butterfly, concrete, paradise

pub, stars, dish

Rather than have my head hurt for longer than absolutely necessary, I’ll just use them all at once and get it over with.

Life is like a butterfly in paradise, flittering and fluttering high above the concrete, searching and reaching for the stars; and then somehow getting distracted by the local pub and a dish of peanuts and taking the night off from all that flitting around because seriously, the stars aren’t going anywhere, so what’s your rush.

That was deep.  I should try writing a philosophy book.  Maybe someone else could figure out the hidden meanings for me.  But I can’t start it today because I’m pretty sure that would come under the heading of ‘speculative ventures.’

And finally, as my dad always used to say, money is absolutely no good to you at all unless you spend it.  Mind you, I don’t remember him ever going on about the value of coffee note pads, but I’m sure he’d agree I’ll get more use out of that than I would from having a ten dollar bill just sitting there on my desk.  So life is good in spite of that ominous T-Square on my solar chart. Or maybe even because of it, who really knows.

What’s In The Cards

Some days I probably shouldn’t even bother getting out of bed.

Monday, Mar 12th, 2012 — Taurus

You might want to put on your suit of armor as soon as you wake up, Taurus.  An all-out battle is raging out there, and it could seem like everyone has picked you as the main target.  Be careful about escalating an issue even more by becoming defensive without first understanding the full scope of the matter.  It could be that everything is coming to a head simply because of one slight misunderstanding.

Since that Taurus horoscope was kind of a bummer I decided to turn to the Tarot cards instead.

Today, obstinancy meets intransigence.  Under the influence of Justice, you will stick to your principles like glue and refuse to budge an inch.  This inflexibility is aggravated by the fact that your environment, represented by Strength, is equally recalcitrant.  So it looks like everyone’s convinced of their own infalibility today.  Not an easy state of affairs!  And the result;  conflicts of interest and heated discussions.  You don’t shy away from difficulties and you don’t give an inch to the enemy, even though you give the impression of making a compromise.

Apparently there are also some days on which it would be wise for me to call in sick to work. There are certainly times when I feel like I’m caught in the middle or backed into a corner.  Passive agressive me, refusing to budge while appearing to compromise.

Of course all of the above, and life in general, should never be taken too seriously.  This too shall pass.

Not So Prompt Prompts

Is it ever okay to lie?  Yes it is.

Share five things you’re good at.  Well for one thing, telling lies.  I’m also very good at telling the truth.  And making things up.  Getting the facts straight.  Getting the facts wrong and all messed up.

What movies are worth watching more than once?  The ones that make  you laugh out loud.  While you were laughing, it’s quite possible that you missed something else that will also make you laugh out loud so you should watch it a second time just in case.  Never miss a chance to laugh out loud.

Would it be tougher for you to give up dairy or meat?  Yogurt and cheese VS beef, chicken, pork.  Decisions, decisions.  Right now it would be really tough to give up lettuce.

Do you have a New Year’s resolution in mind for 2012? No I don’t.  But I could be lieing about that.

What’s your astrological sign?  Taurus the bull.

Name something you’d like to learn more about.  The art of telling lies and shooting the bull.  Or maybe I don’t need any more in-depth study on that kind of thing at all.

Zodiac Arrest

Whatever you want or are trying to find may be hidden somewhere, Taurus, because
today’s entry of the Moon into your sign signals that you’re going to have to
dig for it. You’ll need to follow up on all leads and be willing to get your
hands dirty. You may even have to surrender some of your leisure time in order
to find what you’re seeking. Persistence is your key to success today; try to
find a little curiosity about what’s going on to go with it.

What the hell is that all about?  That’s what I asked myself when I first read todays horoscope.  But then suddenly it all came clear.

There are no plants in my flowerbeds that are not dogwood or weeds.  I’d be able to see that by the entry of the moon if I were foolish enough to wander out there in the middle of the night, but seriously, the sunlight is more conducive to checking out that kind of thing.  Which I may need to do, since there definitely could be more interesting plants hidden somewhere in the dirt.  God knows I’ve planted enough of them over the years and am eternally surprised when anything survives long enough to grow back for the second time.   Dig for it, get your hands dirty, surrender some of your leisure time.  Sod you, horoscope.  But I know you’re right.

Get thee to the Salisbury Greenhouse and set your curiosity free.  Find out what will grow in spite of you.  There’s got to be something.  Ask those guys behind the counter that are supposed to know what they’re talking about.  Even when you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, they have been trained to figure it all out with the end result being the part where you hand over a lot of money and then pack many green living things into the trunk of your car and drive home very slowly wishing you had a ‘plants on board’ sign for your back window to explain to following motorists why you are taking no corners at warp speed.

So, what?  You didn’t get all that from todays reading?  Come on.  All it takes is a bit of introspection and a warped imagination.  And then one must just ‘go with it’.  I meant to go to the greenhouse yesterday but it was Saturday and probably crazy busy and besides, there was no SIGN from the stars like there is today.  Now I can no longer put this off.  The planets have aligned.

What My Home Says About Me

Mostly it says “for the love of gawd could you please roll out that vacuum cleaner sometime this month? And blow some dust off all the knick-knacks and bric-a-brac?”

It also tells people that I am a theme junkie. I love all things African, although I have no idea why. Started off with the living room with masks and elephants, zebras and lions and animal prints, and that motif over-flowed into the master bedroom. I’d be perfectly happy letting it spread throughout the whole house.

The kitchen has a beach theme. Seagulls, sand, blue water, anchors, lighthouses, a little fisherman in yellow rain gear. The room that used to be the toyroom when the grandchildren were little is now a guest bedroom, but still sports a yellow and orange zoo-ish kind of statement with walls covered in tole paintings. There’s a lot of northern stuff in the rec room and another bedroom with a south western vibe.

Perhaps all of the above helps to explain why interior decorating was never my forte. I decorate with things I like and colors that make me happy. Elephant grass yellow, chille pepper red, black, burnt umber, purple rain.

I’m a Taurus in love with creature comforts. I hope my house is homey; soft and snug and safe. A place where you can come on over and relax. Or maybe dust off an elephant or two, if the mood hits you. I’d be perfectly fine with that.

My Inner Eye

Your Daily Horoscope: August 30, 2010

Taurus  Apr. 20 – May 20
The idea that you can create states or conditions by picturing them in your inner eye is nothing new, Taurus. You may be in a position today in which you can prove it to yourself and realize in a very deep way that you have created the situation that you’re in now. What you want to do is to think about where you’d like to be in five years and hold on to that mental image for a short period of time. Don’t demand privileges you haven’t earned today.
Compatibility: Aries
Mood: Creative
Your Daily Lucky Color: Orange
Lucky Number: 80
Lucky Time of Day: 1pm

So THAT’S what I’ve been doing all this long time.  Damn my inner eye.  Because the states and conditions it pictures are often extremely unpleasant.  Time to whip that little inner eye into shape and get it to picture way better stuff.  Of course it’s true that we create the situation we’re in now – or at the very least we have complete control over how we react to it.  Or BE in it.
Where would I like to be in five years?  Well, most of all I would like to still be alive.  If I’m not, then the question is much harder to answer. I would like to be at home, writing and painting with no sense of urgency to get anything done.  Sounds like heaven to me.
What do you mean, there are privileges out there that I haven’t earned?  Give them to me anyway, dammit!!   Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa……

The only Aries I can think of is my brother.

I feel like I’m always creative, although the results of that creativity are another story entirely.

Normally I don’t like orange, but today I’m feeling strangely sympathetic towards it.

Eighty is a nice round fat little number.

And what was I doing at 1 p.m. today?  I can’t remember, except that I’m sure I wasn’t involved in any horrendous disasters, so that of course is the best kind of lucky to be.
